Slow down after lockdown ... a safer way to party

With lockdown finally lifting and the sun coming out, you’re probably desperate to get out there and make the most of this new found freedom. If you’re going to a festival or just out with your mates, the temptation to go all out is completely understandable.

Spare a thought for staying safe though because the sudden change from the last few months means there are more reasons than normal to be careful. If you used to drink or do drugs but haven’t for a while (or not so much), then your tolerance will be lower. The amounts you may once have been able to take may be too much now.

Many dealers will also be trying to make up for lost time, maybe selling pills and powders at an inflated or knockdown price. And they could just be rubbish or might be mixed with some nasty substances. If you take drugs, then start low and go slow – take a small amount first and see how it feels before you use more.

Being cooped up all this time also hasn’t helped people’s mental health or anxiety. Being in a crowded noisy place for the first time in ages can be overwhelming. So make sure you’re kind to yourself and your mates. Stick together and check in with each other. If you see someone going a bit too hard then have a word with them and ask them if they’re OK.

There are plenty more nights out to be had this summer so don’t risk your health or your friends’, in the rush to get wasted. Slow down after lockdown. Take it steady and enjoy a safe summer.
